Linkin Park Conquers UK Album Chart’s Top Spot

The band held off a stiff competition from Maroon 5's 'Overexposed' to take the UK Album Chart Number One and triumphed over Justin Bieber, who dropped to No.4 with 'Believe', according to the Official Charts Company

'Living Things', Linkin Park’s 5th studio album had made the Los Angeles-based band their 6th Top 10 album and 3rd in UK Number One charts. They sold out 'Overexposed' by 3,000 copies, with Maroon 5 having to settle for Number Two. Ed Sheeran's '+' jumped four places to return to the Top 5 at Number Three, while Emeli Sande's 'Over Version of Events' dropped a spot to Number Five. Elsewhere in the UK Albums Chart, Flo Rida’s 'Wild Ones' is new in at Number 8 and Jay-Z and Kanye West's 'Watch the Throne' collaboration has jumped 13 places to re-enter the Top 10 at Number 7.

Meanwhile, The Stone Roses are this week's highest climbers as their 'Very Best Of' compilation jumps an incredible 17 places to Number 21. 'This Is Love' is co-produced by Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello, and is the follow-up to Will.I.Am's previously highest-charting Number 3 solo hit 'T.H.E (The Hardest Ever)' featuring Mick Jagger and Jennifer Lopez, which was released earlier this year. Both tracks are taken from his upcoming solo record '#willpower'.

Maroon 5's 'Payphone' drops one place to Number Two, while Chris Brown's 'Don't Wake Me Up' is new in at Number Three. Flo Rida's 'Whistle' and Cheryl's 'Call My Name' are at No.4 and 5 respectively. Linkin Park’s “Living Things” is now available in all local retail stores.

New Band, New Heights!

With the successful venture into highlighting social media talents with Wong Fu Productions last February,  M.E Malaysia is planning to bring a new American band that is also known as the rock stars of New Media, New Heights to Malaysia!

New Heights is an independent band from Federal Way, WA (USA). The established band, made of lead vocal Travis Graham, guitarist Chris Kwak, guitarist Park Kiyung, bassist Tyler Carroll, and drummer Bobby Walker, has released three independent studio EP’s to their credit, and their first full-length album, “Something to Believe In” was released on September 2011. Their first single “Peaches” gained fame when it was featured in a short film titled “Love Language” by the Jubilee Project. The film gained attention when it was released virally and this led to many different variations by other filmmakers, all featuring the track by New Heights. All together, the “Love Language” inspired videos featuring “Peaches” has over 8,000,000 views on YouTube.

Excited to have New Heights performing in Malaysia this coming July?

WOW, Fantastic Baby!

Greetings all earthlings!
It's been such an eventful month of March and
we're back from the slight hiatus with a BIG BANG!

Well, Big Bang that is...

We're not sure about you but we at MYC!...
okay SOME of us in MYC! love Big Bang and K-Pop! Do you?

Here are some fun facts of the boys you may not know about... until now! ;)

Fact #1
G-Dragon is described as the "most fashionable" one in his group, his role in influencing fashion trends in South Korea have garnered him awards such as the "Style Icon of 2008" and the award for "Most Influential Men of 2008" sponsored by Arena magazine. Fashion icon Kang Dong Wan have also acknowledge G-Dragon's influences, calling him a "fashionista."

Fact #2
G-Dragon was a trainee under the record label YG Entertainment for six years before officially debuting as the leader and one of two rappers for the Korean hip-hop group Big Bang. Since their debut, G-Dragon has been involved with the production of their albums: he composed and wrote several tracks by himself, including "Lies," "Last Farewell," and "Haru Haru."

Fact #3
Taeyang likes games and manga. He also can speak fluent English and Japanese. He can rap and beatbox too.

Fact #4
Taeyang’s first appearance in the entertainment industry was in the hip-hop group Jinusean's music video "A-yo". The collaboration eventually lead him to successfully auditioning into the group's record label YG Entertainment, where he became one of the rappers alongside fellow trainee G-Dragon.

Fact #5
T.O.P was an underground rapper and a childhood friend of G-Dragon. G-Dragon stated that the two were "neighborhood friends from middle school" and would often dance and rap together. Although G-Dragon later moved away and the two "became distant", he contacted him again when YG Entertainment was scouting for candidates to create a boy band.

Fact #6
T.O.P stage name was chosen by SE7VEN.

Fact #7
Seungri is often dubbed the Panda or Baby Panda because of his eye bags.

Fact #8
Seungri says that broccoli is a good remedy for bloodshot, so he eats it almost every day.

Fact #9
Although Daesung’s parents were against the idea of him becoming a singer, Daesung pursued a career as a singer and was eventually recruited by YG Entertainment after auditioning.

Fact #10
Daesung is obsessed with Doraemon.

In case you've got absolutely no clue of whom we're talking about here, below is a link to one of their famous songs that we, okay SOME of us at MYC! sing-a-long to!

Check it out!

Standing Still and Looking Pretty

For as long as anybody could remember, there has always been this avid fascination with Hollywood movies, no matter how poorly-received they turn out to be. What was once the most important in any movie (the storyline) has taken the back seat to make room for A-list actors/actresses with too much botox and zero acting abilities. Surely deep down you agree? Ever go and watch a movie and think to yourself, "God this man/woman can't act!"?

Well, there you go: gorgeous people with no acting chops.
  1. Kristen Stewart - So what she's the actress everybody's raving about? In case you didn't know, past movie credits include Panic Room, Zathura and heaven forbid, The Twilight Saga. When I first heard she was playing Bella Swan, the protagonist from my then-favourite set of books, I almost wept. Seriously, anybody who'd suffered through the past three movies (Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse) would know what I mean. She just walks around looking mopey and emotionless, and when, in any of the aforementioned three movies, she is being attacked by the baddie, you almost want to cheer. For the bad guy.
  2. Arnold Schwarzenegger - He has to be in the list. The former bodybuilder/model/governor of California, his more well-known roles include Conan in the '80s and, of course, the Terminator series. His bulging muscles, I'd like to think, make up for his lack of facial expressions and acting skills. The only plus is that his Austrian accent has mellowed down since his Conan days (it was Bad back then - with a capital 'B')
  3. Jessica Simpson - She should've just stuck to singing. Or rather, whatever it was she did at the start of her career before she and Nick Lachey split up. At least there had been some semblance of a real singer. And then, post-Nick Lachey, there was The Dukes of Hazzard and Blonde Ambition which cemented her status as a ditzy blonde bimbo with breathy vocals and all that. Afterwards, there was her foray into Country Music *coughs* And oh, if you must know, there was also her famous 'chicken or fish' comment on The Newlyweds.
  4. Robert Pattinson - 'Model, singer, actor', reads his resume. He had a small part as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire before he clinched the role of Edward Cullen, the sparkly pretty-boy vampire who spends most of his time being broody and who falls in love with a mortal teenager (played by Kristen Stewart). Since then he was in Remember Me and Water for Elephants. Let's just face it, though, he's actually too pretty for rugged roles, and people seem to know him more as 'Edward Cullen' than his real name.
  5.  Megan Fox - A male friend of mine was horrified that I hated Megan Fox in the first two Transformers movies as well as Jennifer's Body. From a guy's point of view, she's eye candy, all pouty-lipped and buxom-y. But if you'd noticed, she rarely does anything of significance except to stand still and look pretty. Real acting, I should remind you, is performing in a way that you capture the imagination of the audience. Real acting is like Casablanca or The Godfather - you empathize with the character, you relate to them, you weep a little (drooling over Ms. Fox doesn't count).  So yah, acting-wise, she fails on all counts. Obviously.

Of Rom-coms and Sappy Disasters

When I hear the word 'romantic comedies' (rom-coms), the first name that pops into my mind is Hugh Grant (this is neither a compliment nor an insult). I shudder, truly. Being an international star for the past fifteen years, the man goes through nothing but romantic comedies. In fact, he's famous for them. OK lar, it isn't really fair to say all this guy does is rom-com (he did play a doctor in Extreme Measures, but it was received with mixed reviews). So, that movie aside, I sincerely believe that he could do rom-coms effortlessly, even in his sleep.

That's why this is a list of his more bearable movies (I said bearable, not acceptable or entertaining). I watched them once and refused to watch them again for fear of getting sucked back into mushy-dom.

Photo taken from here
Four Weddings and a Funeral - Wikipedia described Hugh's character as a "debonair but faux-pas-prone Englishman" and I couldn't agree more. Because the whole movie's literally about four weddings and a funeral, all he ever wears are suits. Ugly, totally unimaginative suits. Anyway, the movie is about Charles (Hugh's character) and an American woman (played by Andie MacDowell) who bumps into each other at four weddings and a funeral. But yes, Hugh has also been described as "endearingly awkward" in the movie. I mean, is he anything but?

Photo taken from here
Mickey Blue Eyes - Same old, same old, but with an extra twist: gangsters! But Hugh plays the kind of character you'd expect him to play - British and stylish with not a hair out of place and eyes like a lost puppy. This time he plays an auctioneer who proposes to his girlfriend only to be turned down. It turns out that his girlfriend's family is deeply involved in a mafia crime family and she doesn't want him to get sucked into a life of crime. Amidst all the fumbling and bumbling, count on his character to get involved with a serious crime that brings the FBI to his doorstep. It's more crime-comedy than rom-com, and Hugh Grant in crime-comedy is like oil and water, isn't it?

Photo taken from here
Music and Lyrics - Yet another romantic comedy. So Hugh is a former pop music idol who belonged in the fictional 80's band PoP! His career has since then nosedived and now now he earns a living singing his old hits to his middle-aged fans. This is the part where I roll my eyes. What's with Hugh Grant and middle-aged women! His voice being...OK is his only saving grace, methinks. But really, as rom-coms go, boy falls for girl, girl leaves boy, boy projects his puppy-eyed stare onto our side of the idiot box (that makes women go all warm and fuzzy and mushy), then boy gets back together with girl lives happily ever after
*heavy sighs*

Photo taken from here
Notting Hill - OK, this rom-com I kinda like. But really, the character Hugh plays (Will Thacker) is so stereotypical I want to smack the director over the head: he's British, he owns a bookstore and he's the awkward and bumbling type. But Julia Roberts is a nice addition - she plays a Hollywood actress who goes into his bookstore to get a book and they find themselves attracted to one another. However, I must say that I draw the line at cheesy phrases like "I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy asking him to love her". Absolutely puke-inducing.

Photo taken from here
Two Weeks Notice - This is a typical Hugh Grant sort of movie, where he plays an "immature billionaire real estate tycoon", a greedy and reckless lout of a playboy (adjective overload, sorry). Sandra Bullock, on the other hand, is a liberal lawyer specializing in environmental law. In exchange for his word to protect the Coney Island community center she agrees to work for him as his Chief Counsel. But again, the storyline is as predictable as my pinkie finger, but I ran out of the more bearable Hugh Grant movies and after much contemplating, I decided on this.

*Sighs* Well, if you'd noticed, Hugh Grant only ever plays two types of characters in his very impressive span of fifteen years as a Hollywood star - the bumbling English idiot or the suave businessman who is also a jerk.

Don't get me wrong, though - I have no qualms against these kind of characters, but Hugh, please go get yourself killed or chopped to pieces (in the movies) already! (It might also give your career the boost it sadly needs right now)

You Know You're A 90's Baby When...

I've been spending so much time on the myc! blog that my own personal blog feels abandoned *and yes, this is a hint to whatever higher power that's reading this right now*

That said, if you've noticed, since I set out blogging for myc! (my maiden post being 'Tattoos') I've covered random, fangirl-y topics ranging from hunks to shoes to jewellery to books. Well, here's another one for the count  :)

'90s Babies: Top 10 Boybands You've Probably Listened to When Growing Up
(the era of bowl-shaped hair-dos and dodgy jewellery, the '90s and early 2000s was the time of boybands. Note: the list is compiled not in any particular order)
Backstreet Boys photo taken from here, 98 Degrees
photo taken from here
  1. Five (or known as 5ive) - More known for their awesome dance moves than anything else, Five is J, Scott, Richie, Abs and Sean. Selling over 7 million albums throughout their career, they disbanded in 2001. My personal favourites are Slam Dunk (Da Funk), When The Lights Go Out and Don't Wanna Let You Go (check out the music video for the last one; it involves a haunted house and groovy dance moves)
  2. Backstreet Boys - Crawl out from whichever rock you've been hiding under if you haven't heard of them. Songs you've probably heard include older hits like Everybody (Backstreet's Back) and I Want It That Way, or newer ones like Drowning and Straight Through My Heart.
  3. Westlife - I was in Year 6 when Westlife-mania started. Girls were listening to and singing If I Let You Go and Flying Without Wings, and there were always possibilities of encountering Shane/Mark/Bryan/Kian/Nicky posters at the back of toilet doors at school. Or worse, words would be written in liquid paper, for instance "(insert your name here) loves Shane forever xoxoxo".
  4. 98 Degrees - Consisting of brothers Nick and Drew Lachey, Jeff Timmons and Justin Jeffre, the band was more adult contemporary than the rest of the boybands out there during that time. Noteworthy songs include the up-tempo Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche) as well as ballads like I Do (Cherish You) and Invisible Man.
  5. Boyz II Men - An American R&B vocal group better known for their sappy ballads, Boyz II Men were around for quite some time (1988, to be exact). Up to date they've sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. Fans would probably remember their mushy ballad with Mariah Carey (One Sweet Day) and Brokenhearted (with Brandy).
  6. 911 - Seriously, what is with boybands and numbers? *rolls eyes* A three-man band, 911 is British, and members are Lee Brennan, Spike Dawbarn and Jimmy Constable. What was popular? Erm, there's "This isssss my journeyyyyy...journey through liiiiiife..." (The Journey) and "You got my body shakin', sends a shiver to my soul". Recalling this, I couldn't help but shudder from the cheesiness of it all.
  7. O-Town - The only two songs I could really remember are Liquid Dreams and All Or Nothing. I also remember, unfortunately, my, ahem! 'debate' with a few friends about which band member is cuter - Ashley Parker Angel or Dan Miller? *groans*
  8. LFO - An American pop/rap group, LFO (Lyte Funky Ones) consisted of Devlin Lima, Rich Cronin (who passed away last year) and Brian Fischetti. Their sound leaned more towards punk rap, and memorable songs include Summer Girls, Girl on TV and Every Other Time.
  9. Blue - Wildly popular with their hits All Rise, Too Close and If You Come Back, Blue consisted of Simon, Lee, Duncan and Antony. Lee's high-pitched vocals and Duncan's husky timbre produce the perfect harmony, especially for the slower songs. They disbanded in 2005 to concentrate on their solo projects, but there are news on the grapevine of a reform. Yays!
  10. 'N Sync - No boyband list would be truly complete without 'N Sync (need you even wonder?) Fronted by Justin Timberlake, the rest of the boys are JC, Lance, Chris and Joey and they sold more than 56 million albums worldwide before going their own ways in 2002. Fans would probably recall hit singles like Bye Bye Bye, It's Gonna Be Me and This I Promise You (try listening to this in Spanish!)
(Photo of Blue from here, photo of LFO from here)

Cheers 'til the next time!

Bersih 2.0 , was it right ? or was it wrong ?

Now that Bersih 2.0 is over..it is time for feedbacks.

I’ll briefly explain what the Bersih 2.0 rally is, and the purpose and reason behind this rally.

BERSIH 2.0

The Bersih 2.0 rally, also known as the Walk for Democracy is a rally organised to fight for clean and fair elections.

However, this rally was deemed illegal by the government.

Bersih, was led by former president of the Bar Council Ambiga Sreenevasan and she was pushing the Election Commission of Malaysia to ensure free and fair elections in Malaysia.

Ambiga’s demands was:
1) Election Commission to clean up the electoral roll,
2) Reform postal voting,
3) Use indelible ink,
4) Introduce a minimum 21-day campaign period,
5) Allow all parties free access to the media,
6) Put an end to electoral fraud and dirty politics

Ambiga's demand were rejected and this prompted her to lead the rally to fight for the people's right.

The police said that public gatherings without police permits are illegal and they vowed to prevent the rally from happening.

Regardless of police warnings, the rally still took its place on the 9th of July 2011.

I have to admit. It was a chaos.

Roads were blocked, tear gas was released, water cannon are being sprayed, policemen being too aggressive, over thousands arrested, some had minor injuries and someone passed away.

So what do you think about Bersih 2.0?? Are you with it or are you against it?

I have to admit, I am totally supporting the cause, which is to fight for clean and fair elections.

I am neither a supporter of the government nor the opposition but I felt that something needs to be done in order to make Malaysia a better place and a corruption free country.

For some reason’s the BERSIH 2.0 rally proved to us that we as Malaysian’s can stand undivided amongst each other when it matters most.

It certainly showed us that there was no racism and there was no culture, religion dividing us. We were standing proud as MALAYSIANS, not Malays, Chinese or Indians.

Michael Bublé's Romantic Italian Holiday!

Honeymoon bliss: Michael Bublé and his wife Luisana Lopilato during a romantic sunset gondola ride in Venice

The "Crazy Love" singer, who has dual Italian and Canadian citizenship, was spotted getting cozy with his new bride, Luisana Loreley Lopilato de la Torre, in Venice, Italy, on what appeared to be a very romantic honeymoon.

Bublé, 35, and Lopilato de la Torre, 23, toured the fabled Italian city looking every bit the happy couple basking in their wedded bliss. Their agenda included something no trip to Venice is complete without: an intimate gondola ride through the canals.
The couple, who met at a record industry party in Buenos Aires in November 2008 and became engaged the following year, were in "The City of Bridges" after tying the knot in a small, private, civil ceremony in Buenos Aires last month. That was followed by a 300-person wedding bash at a private mansion outside the Argentine capital days later.
Venice, it seems, is just a brief stop on their marriage tour: The couple also plan to throw a wedding reception in Vancouver for Bublé's family and friends.

But they'll have to do it soon, because the Grammy-winner shows no signs of slowing down his careet. His Crazy Love tours kicks off June 1st in Austin, Texas.

Can you help us? The couple stop and talk to a member of staff at the train station in Venice as they head for their train to Milan

PS: AHH HOW SWEET :)  Next stop? MILAN babeh! Where they shop and shop!
