With all these attempted
rape/kidnap cases increasingly happening recently, we at MYC! would like to
greatly stress on the importance of taking precaution measures, especially for
you girls out there! This issue has come to our attention by how quick wit can
actually save your life. All the single ladies, listen close!
1. As
always, try to avoid having to walk alone in the car park, be it the basement
or roof top car park. It’s still quiet and a very popular spot for crime. Get a
security guard close by to accompany you or hire a personal hunky escort!
Better broke than dead! :)
2. If
you suspect the stranger in the elevator with you reeks of criminal pheromones,
turn to him, look him in the face and ask for the time or talk about the
weather. He will most likely, knowing that you have seen and recognize his
face, drop the idea of harassing you or just think you’re weird. Better to look
silly than dead!
3. Let’s
say you were taken off guard and the criminal has a gun or weapon but is at a
safe distance, throw your handbag in the opposite direction and run in a zigzag
pattern as if you’re being chased by a crocodile. He will most likely go for
your belongings. Don’t worry; you can always buy another smartphone or that
expensive Chanel handbag again! But not your life!
4. What
we have learned in that recent case at the Curve, always, ALWAYS, put up a
fight. Elbows and knees may come in handy. Or if you have weak bones, bite the
guy! RAWR! You have the right to mutilate the attacker because this is for
self-defense. If you make it difficult for them to apprehend you, they are
likely to let you go because they want an easy target. Go crazy and do whatever
you can to get everyone’s attention. Again, better to look silly than dead!
5. It’s
okay to lie to your captors. In worst case scenarios, you have been caught and
it’s you they want. Tell them that you will be good and will not scream if they
let you sit in a position where you can escape. Lie or Die!
6. Never
leave your food and drinks unattended. It takes less than a second for someone
to spike your stuff. Better to be paranoid than dead!
In a nutshell, always be thankful
that you can live another day. It’s alright to look a little crazy when you are
in suspicion. Share some precaution tips with us by commenting! And remember to
share this post to your girlfriends, sisters, mothers, grandmothers,
great-grandmothers, aunties, grand aunties, maybe even your little baby sister.
I found this post very helpful! :D Here are my contributions...
ReplyDeleteSometimes, it's okay to dress in less expensive clothes when visiting one of the seedier neighbourhoods. That way, you wouldn't look so much like a prospective snatch theft victim. Better to look like a hobo than to be targeted!
Looking alert at all times really helps too! Many times I have attracted the eyes of many a baddie due to my frail-looking body. So what do I do? I give them my Glare of DOOM. This tells them that I will give them a hard time if they do target me. Two, this implies that I have some means of inflicting grievous bodily harm on them, they just can't see what I'm armed with. (I'm absolutely sure that a sharp pen in the nether regions is super effective. Stilettos are a pretty good bet, too!)Three, chances are that the attacker is more jittery (from guilt or fear of being recognised) than you are, so it wouldn't hurt to at least try giving them a menacing look. (This works for me because I intimidate most men. Your mileage may vary.)
Disclaimer: Do not attempt this if there is a pair of attackers or a group of them. They are braver when they are not alone. (Male pride, pfft.) This is most effective on solo crooks. Also, don't just stare at them, walk out of there with strong strides to hint that you're not easy prey. GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE. Go somewhere where there are more people. There is safety in numbers. Better to be like a penguin than to be "polar bear" food.
Stay safe, everyone!
Thank you Eiraelis, this is really helpful indeed!
DeleteRemember to stay alert everyone!
Girls out there should also be careful of their handbags and to be always alert of their surroundings! Since young, my mum has trained me and my 2 older siblings to be always precautios and be safe! Some tips include:
ReplyDelete1.When walking alone on a street, always hold on to your handbags as you walk and do occasionally turn around to see any potential motorcyclist tht look like they'll come for you.
Here's a real life incident that happened to me: I was almost a victim of snatch theft near my housing area. Walking down the lorong that takes me 2 minutes walk from my car to the house one day, I noticed a motorcycle sound from behind me, as I turned around, I saw 2 indian guys on a motorcycle tht I felt were up to no good, I quickly ran down the lorong but instead to be chased by them from 2 roads away, I ran for my life, shouting, instantly I threw my handbag into a neighbour's garden and few seconds later were confronted by the 2 men ready to rob me. Seeing tht I had nothing on left on me, frustrated, they tried to pushed me in a drain nearby but I managed to break my fall by leaning against the wall next to the drain. A neighbour came out to help and make a big fuss thus scaring the 2 men away. In shock and fear, I managed to retrieve back my bag from the neighbour's garden later on.
2. When in car, do not leave handbags visible on passenger seats (many cases have been reported of motorcyclist robbers breaking window to grab your bag esp the purse)
3. Getting out of car or going into your car: Always look in your passenger seat and look around if anyone following you before going in/out of your car. Once in car, straight away LOCK and do not dilly dally in car parks esp !! Not safe!
Thank you for the tips Kayz!
